Discontinuous Curve A curve that produces a discontinuous acceleration from starting point to stopping point. Uniform velocity curve, uniform acceleration curve, etc.
Drive Member, Driver The input mechanism that gives motion to the follower.
Dwell The temporarily motionless phase of the follower for a given amount of time.
Dwell Period The rotating angle of the input shaft when the output shaft is in a dwell. The sum of the dwell period and the index period form 360!.
Dynamic-Rated Load A unit of measurement that represents the load capacity of a machine. Specifically, a constant load factor that can give a basic life rating for a given constant speed.

Torque
Maximum torque that can be applied to the output shaft during index.
