"The Pioneer of small European Cars"
France played a pioneering role in the development of automobiles, by contributing a number of important inventions and encouraging automobile races. Citroen founded an automobile company in 1919 based on two important things: the manufacture of the double helical gear, which is still memorialized in the company’s logo, and the example set by the Model T Ford. Citroen’s "Type A (Model Change B2 became the first mass-produced car in Europe, and at its height of production more than 2 million units per year were manufactured. The "Type C", which appeared in 1922, was a practical and economical compact car. It was easy to handle and had an attractive design, which helped contribute to the spread of automobile use. Its nickname, “the 5CV”, came from the fact that it had a taxable horsepower of 5. The French CV stands for cheveau vapeur, which is approximately equivalent to the English HP (horsepower), A total of 80,232 units were manufactured from 1922 to 1926.
