本機は、17世紀後半の木工用の足踏み旋盤である。旋盤は1500年頃のレオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチのスケッチに描かれているが、実用的なものは17世紀まで待たなければならなかった。
現存する極めて希少な木工旋盤である。

This machine is a treadle-operated lathe, used for woodworking in the latter half of the 17th century. A lathe was depicted in a sketch by Leonardo Da Vinci around 1500, but the practical application of the idea had to wait until the 17th century. This is an extremely rare example of such a woodworking lathe, still in existence.
