Geneva Drive,
Maltese Wheel
An intermittent driving mechanism in which pins or rollers fixed to the primary wheel ride along a groove in the follower making the follower move intermittently. Contrary to cam-driven mechanisms, the Geneva drive has little design flexibility and a discontinuous acceleration at the start and stop ends.
Grinding Cams are usually heat treated and quenched after which the surface of the cams are ground to attain a high degree of precision.
