Cam Terminology

Offset The distance between moving direction of a translating follower and the center of a plate cam.
One-Dwell Motion,
Dwell Motion
A series of motions that either start or stop with a dwell. Using the same curve for the changeover between advance and return motions enables less acceleration and smoother motions.

Oscillating Angle
The swing angle for oscillating output shafts.

Oscillating Follower
A cam-driven follower used to obtain an angular displacement.

On a time chart, the time span where two or more movements occur concurrently. In order to reduce overall cycle times, two or more motions may be executed before a motion already in progress finishes.
